Inkling©What the heck is that?

Part drawings, part paintings, the standard descriptions of either of these traditional kinds of art just don't quite provide an accurate idea of Kappes' work; hence, the need for a "brand name." Inkling© is the verbage Kappes chooses to brand her works done with alcohol-based colored inks. By bringing this unusual medium, usually reserved for use by graphic artists and cartooninsts, Kappes has carved out a niche in the fine art realm. Truly, most folks, including art professionals, rarely guess how she attains the sumptious color, depth and detail that are the hallmarks of her Inklings©.

In the most obvious way, Inkling© refers to the INK part of Kappes' artistic formula. Transparent and highly maleable, using both "art markers," as well as watercolor brushes and fluid "refill inks," her Inklings© feature both tight detail and painterly qualities.

In another way, "Inkling©" foreshadows the viewers experience. Loving the narrative genre, Kappes invites you to step into her compositions and find your own frame of reference. Providing only an INKLING of a story, you are free to wander around and take your own personal journey. The artist's journey is often there, too, lurking beneath a shadow, hiding in an old cupboard or dancing among the crops.
